LESSONS AND CLINICS

“I use only positive reinforcement methods in teaching – to let my students know specifically what they have gotten right so they can repeat it.  If a breakthrough is slow to come, I will introduce different exercises to tackle the goal in a new way.” -- Joy

I love to teach, and enjoy working with all levels of students and all breeds of horses. As a USDF Certified Instructor, I:

  • Use a systematic approach of gymnastic exercises based on the German Training Scale, working from easier to more challenging, to help rider and horse progress through the levels

  • Combine riding work and theory explanation to make sure that the student understands the lesson and can continue to work on her own

  • Will ride a student’s horse during a lesson to help demonstrate a point and facilitate better understanding

  • Discuss training issues and help to set goals with full-time students to encourage progress and a sense of accomplishment

Lesson logistics:

I will travel half an hour from the area to teach individual students (further for groups of three or more.) Students traveling from a distance may board their horse in the area for several days of intensive lessons.  Email me directly for scheduling at joycongdon@aol.com.

All lessons are based on a 45-minute private session with the understanding that the student has warmed up beforehand.  Semi-privates may be available upon special arrangement.

A 24-hour cancellation notice is required to avoid lesson charge.

Clinics

I clinic extensively throughout New England and schedule half and full day clinics.  I have limited availability for scheduling new clinics but please email me directly to inquire at joycongdon@aol.com.

Judging

My judging availability is limited because of my competition and coaching schedule, but I enjoy judging schooling shows, especially ride-review-rides. Email me directly to enquire about cost and availability at joycongdon@aol.com.
